1960 I.M. Pei Slayton House in Cleveland Park – $4.25 Million
The I.M. Pei Slayton House I mentioned in this post nearly a year ago is on the market. Pei designed the Cleveland Park home, with its unique three poured concrete vaults, for William Slayton, a friend and colleague at the the Urban Renewal Administration Commissioner. Hugh Newell Jacobsen designed plans for the renovation done by the owner who bought the 2/3 house from the Slayton family after William Slayton and his wife passed away after living in the house for 40 years. Read a great article (starting on page 7 of the magazine) on the house by Hannah McCann in the summer 2003 issue of ArchitectureDC. The spread includes good images as well as photos detailing the house’s construction and “vignettes” from Slayton about the house, which were recorded in 1990s. The house is located here on Ordway Street. Make sure click on the virtual tour for good images.
