1961 ‘Miesien’ Modern in Kent – $1.295 Million; Open 1/23

What would Mies think about this listing in Kent?

I’m still trying to find out who designed this “Miesien” mid-century modern in the Kent neighborhood of D.C., but I wanted to make sure people saw this. The listing says the three bedroom/three bath house is a “one of a kind contemporary designed by protege of Mies van der Rohe in the Bauhaus style.” I like the floating staircases, clerestory windows and the white brick. But the best part of the house the is the open living-dining room with walls of glass. I think Mies would be proud. You can see images of the house here. Open 2-4 p.m. on Jan. 23.

It certainly looks nice. The furnishings and art show the house very well. Rather aggressively priced at $1.3M, I’d say, given the size. We’ll see. I’m not seeing Bauhaus elements in the pictures; it looks like a well done mid-century modern to me, with definite Mies influences.

Wow – this is a gorgeous house. Sadly, i’ll have to make do with this one for now – you might like it too: http://www.gilt.com/sale/children/brinca-dada-186/product/59172226

Love your blog. It’s so hard to find good modern design in DC – you’re my primary go-to source!
