2012 Hollin Hills House and Garden Tour
Winter just started but I am already looking forward to spring and the 2012 Hollin Hills House and Garden Tour. The biennial tour of the award-winning mid-century modern community will take place Saturday, April 28th, 2012, from noon to 6:00 p.m. Immediately preceding the tour at 11:00 a.m., Tom Kerns, FAIA
, who lives in the neighborhood and who has designed nearly 60 additions in Hollin Hills, will speak about the history of the neighborhood, the product of the collaboration between modernist architect Charles Goodman and Robert Davenport, who dared to take the risk of building on a hilly tract of land that other developers refused to touch. The self-guided walking tour will showcase stunning examples of mid-century modern architecture and landscape in the award winning community designed and developed by Goodman and Davenport. Hollin Hills has been recognized as one of the groundbreaking post-World War II modernist developments. (Here’s my post from the 2010 tour.)
Click here to purchase tickets or for more information. (General tickets are $20.) You can also find out more information about the tour as it approached on its Facebook page
and at the Hollin Hills website.
This listing I sold this year was featured on a previous tour. Looking forward to seeing the homes selected for the upcoming tour.
The night before on April 27, the Interior Design Department of the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Corcoran College of Art + Design
will host a program entitled, “Community of Vision: Hollin Hills, Modern Then and Now,” at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Advance purchase of tickets for the program, which will run from 6:00-7:30 p.m., is strongly advised and may be purchased here for $10. (Tour tickets are a great idea for last-minute Christmas/Hanukkah presents. You can contact firstname.lastname@example.org for a seasonal gift message sans the price).
Spring can’t come soon enough.
