Art Deco Society’s Modernism Show and Sale this Weekend

The Art Deco Society of Washington is holding its 27th annual Exposition of 20th Century Decorative Arts this weekend (May 22-23) at the Dulles Expo and Conference Center in Chantilly, Virginia. The Expo, which began in 1983 primarily as an Art Deco show, is the nation’s oldest modernism show and  pays tribute  to the 1925 Paris  Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes.

Held annually at locations in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia suburbs, the Expo gradually expanded to include other design movements of the 20th century. The 2010 show will include the sale of all 20th Century design movements, including Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Art Deco, Art Moderne, Mid Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern and Atomic.

The Expo is the group’s primary source of funding to support its preservation and education efforts, so I hope people will check out the sale this weekend.
