Better Homes and Garden Home in Berkeley Springs – $155K
The design for this 1959 mid-century modern home listed for $155K in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, was published in the October 1958 issue of Better Homes and Garden. It was marketed as the Better Homes and Garden Five Star Home Plan No. 2810. According to this Flikr post and this one, the original design for this model was done by Fischer & Frichtel in St. Louis. The design is a raised ranch with basement and 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the main level.
“Warm glow of welcome comes from rich, fall-blending colors of front door and flanking panels,” the magazine’s description says. “Glass around entry brightens reception area. Rosy brick, redwood are topped by bold white fascia. Plentiful storage (lacking in some carports) is in sturdy wall at right.” While the house listed in West Virginia has original touches like the bathrooms, wood floors and laminate countertops in the kitchen, it would be interesting to see if any of the redwood remains under the yellow vinyl siding. The house was originally built from the magazine’s design by a local banker.
