FSBO: 1950 Lustron in Forest Heights – $437K
Between 1949 and 1950, Chicago industrialist and inventor Carl Strandlund’s Lustron Corporation built more than 2,500 of the pref-fab steel houses with porcelain-enamel-coated panels to help house the returning soldiers and their families after World War II. This area Lustron is a 4/3 with 2,500 sq. ft. over two levels. The listing says it has been completely renovated (including stainless steel appliances to match the home’s main component), but the few pictures do not provide a real overview of the house. Here’s a great site created by the National Trust for Historic preservation on all things Lustron. I especially like this interactive guide detailing the different components of the homes, which contain more than 3,300 parts.
