Goodman Barreled-Roof Town House in Southwest, D.C. – $475K

Another Charles Goodman on the market. This one is an aluminum barreled-roof town home in Southwest D.C. at River Park. It’s listed at $475,000 and is open 10/29 from 1-3 p.m.

Goodman was picked to design River Park’s apartment buildings and town homes by Reynolds Metal, which developed the area in the early 1960s to display its aluminum building products, according to “Heart of Glass,” a September 2003 Washington City Paper article on Goodman by David Morton.

Morton writes: “The town houses gained immediate attention for the aluminum barrel vaults that capped some of the units. Just as on the apartment buildings, punched aluminum was also used as a decorative shading element. But the flat aluminum panels on the faces of the houses are lifeless industrial tablets, better suited to a strip-mall bank. The aluminum screens have been known to rattle in the wind.”

Morton might not like the aluminum, but the redone interior looks pretty good to me.
