Price Drop: Architect Eugene Delmar’s Home in Wheaton – $595K
I wrote about this 1957 custom mid-century modern home in Arcola in Wheaton back in May when it was at $625K. It is now down to $595K and the listing has more pictures to peruse. While there have been some updates (granite countertops in the kitchen) there are still some vintage touches in the some of the bathrooms and the lighting. I like the double-sided stone fireplace as well and the dramatic carport. The 4 bedroom/3.5 bath home was built by local architect and builder Eugene Delmar, FAIA, for his own family. Delmar’s company is known for having built many schools in the area. When I visited the house a few months ago, Mr. Delmar happened to be there working on the house. We spoke briefly about his work in the mid-century period and relationships with the other local architects, including Hal Esten. I mentioned to Mr. Delmar that I had just been reviewing vintage copies of the annual awards publication of the the AIA’s Potomac Valley Chapter and saw images of him from 50 years ago when he served as judge for the awards.
