Update: Our Goodman Renovation in Virginia
Here are some recent pictures from our renovation of the Charles Goodman-designed home architect Michael Cook and I found in Lincolnia Park. It is sited on a private .6 acre inside the Beltway and just west of 395. Below are a couple of shots of how it looked when we purchased it in November.
This is how it looks now:
The original house was a 3 bedroom/1 bath ranch (a Unit House No. 2 in Hollin Hills parlance) with a two-car garage, which was added later. Michael’s design is for a 4 bedroom/2.5 bath 2,300 square-foot home with a stunning, cantilevered master suite on a newly created second level. The central part of the house will be the new open kitchen-dining area with 10-foot ceilings.
Here is the cantilevered master suite from the outside and looking out the wall of glass.
Here is the master bath’s soaking tub being installed:
Below is the newly created kitchen-dining space between the original house and the garage.

Here is a shot looking from the original living room into the new kitchen-dining area. You can see the signature Goodman fireplace to the left.
We are finishing the house with all new double-pane windows, electrical, plumbing and HVAC.
The house is located amid a cluster of other mid-century and contemporary homes and less than 10 miles to the Pentagon, National Airport and Pentagon City. It is only seven miles to Old Town Alexandria.
